I moved to Herne Bay in 2015, ostensibly to retire and begin a new chapter of my life. I very quickly became aware of what a friendly and vibrant place Herne Bay was and soon got to know some of the locals and made new friends. The pier became a focal point of my daily routine. I consider myself to be so lucky to live in this town and be part of the community, being involved with both Plastic Free Herne Bay and, more importantly, the pier. My son runs Stone Baked Pizza in the food court and helping him quickly put paid to any thoughts of retirement! I was excited to be invited as a Trustee of the pier – my previous experience of working at festivals having afforded me the knowledge of Risk Assessment and Health and Safety procedures, which are an important component for the Pier’s continuing success. At that time, I had no idea of the work involved to keep it running smoothly and seamlessly – it’s a mammoth task. I want to continue to help in making the pier a safe and happy place for both the people who work there and the thousands of families who enjoy visiting our town during the year and was delighted to be made Chairman of the trust in the latter part or 2023
